Berger "Ses Sirops" – Moulin des Loups, France

This large French advertising ashtray was made for Berger, a brand known not only for its spirits but also for its syrups. The vibrant yellow glaze and the encircling black typography “BERGER – SES SIROPS” give the piece a particularly graphic, almost modern effect.

With its striking trapezoidal shape and deep grooves, the ashtray was designed for rugged use in French cafés, bars, and bistros. The combination of bright yellow and black lettering makes it an exceptionally decorative object of French advertising culture today.

The piece was manufactured by Moulin des Loups in Orchies, France. On the underside is the manufacturer’s mark featuring a windmill and the inscription “Orchies – Moulin des Loups – France,” along with the number 878.26.09. The piece likely dates from the 1950s to the 1960s.
