This massive coin counting and sorting insert is an exceptional piece of historical cash register and banking technology. Crafted from thick-walled steel and equipped with four sorting compartments of different widths, it was most likely used as an insert in a cash register, cash drawer, or cashier's desk.

The different widths of the compartments are no accident: each compartment was precisely matched to the diameter of a specific coin denomination. The coins were inserted upright, one after another, and guided automatically to the front edge by the sloping, forward-tilted design. This made them readily accessible at all times, and the fill level could be checked at a glance – a solution that was as simple as it was ingenious for quick cash operations.

The embossed number "1" on the inside of the lid presumably refers to a modular cash register system. It was probably module 1 of a larger series of inserts, each intended for different coin values.

Weighing almost 500 grams, the box conveys a material quality that is rarely found today. The lid closes neatly, the removable sorting insert is completely intact, and the cassette is in exceptionally good original condition.

Today, this piece is not only a rare collector's item of industrial and banking history but also a stylish organizer for a desk or workshop – for example, for writing instruments, screws, watchmaker's tools, or other small parts.
