Suze opal glass ashtray – France, 1970s–1980s

This original ashtray from the French aperitif brand Suze is a beautiful piece of French bar and bistro culture from the 1970s to 1980s.

Made of white opal glass, this compact ashtray has an unusually high, almost cylindrical shape with two integrated cigarette rests. The characteristic orange-and-black Suze logo runs around the perimeter, featuring the addition "Depuis 1889" and the stylized plant motif, a reference to the traditional gentian aperitif.

Suze was introduced in France in 1889 and developed into a classic of French café and aperitif culture. Advertising ashtrays like this one were standard fixtures in French bars, bistros, and restaurants for decades.

Thanks to its compact, clean design, the piece is also suitable today as a small tray or vide-poche.
