Suze – Moulin des Loups Orchies, 1950s–1960s

This original ashtray from the French aperitif brand Suze is a characteristic piece of French bar and bistro culture from the 1950s to the 1960s.

It was manufactured by the traditional French ceramics factory Moulin des Loups in Orchies. The vibrantly yellow glazed ceramic features the historic Suze logo in red and black multiple times, as well as the period-typical addition “Liqueur du 4ème groupe.” The wide, flat shape with integrated cigarette rests was specifically developed for use in cafés, bars, and bistros.

The underside features the original manufacturer's mark from Moulin des Loups with the windmill signet, “Orchies – Made in France,” and the model number 878.28.09.

Today, the ashtray is not only a beautiful collector's item of French advertising culture, but is also suitable as a decorative tray or vide-poche.
