Leather gymnastics ball - 1 kg

This original brown leather gymnastics or medicine ball is an authentic piece of sports equipment from the mid-20th century. With its hand-stitched construction, characteristic segmentation, and beautiful patina, it embodies the functional charm of historical sports and gymnastics equipment.

Made of robust cowhide, the ball likely dates from the 1950s to 1960s and was manufactured for use in schools, sports clubs, or rehabilitation. Medicine balls of this era were laboriously hand-stitched from several leather segments, turned inside out, and then firmly stuffed with dense natural material such as cow or horsehair. This gave them their high inherent weight and their firm, non-bouncing form.

Weighing 960 g and with a diameter of approx. 20 cm, this example belongs to the classic 1 kg class and is one of the smaller gymnastics or medicine balls of its time. Such models were primarily used in school gymnastics, general gymnastics, and for coordination and strength exercises. Larger versions for adults often weighed between three and five kilograms and had a significantly larger diameter.

The medicine ball is in good used condition with age-related signs of wear and a beautiful patina that underlines its authentic character.
