Ceramic Camping Ashtray – Ateliers de Céramique Ricard

This exceptional ceramic ashtray from the French Ateliers de Céramique Ricard dates back to the 1950s. Its striking triangular shape, vibrant turquoise glaze, and graphic relief decor make it a characteristic example of post-war French ceramic design.

The motif depicts two stylized camping tents and a small caravan. The white-highlighted forms provide a beautiful contrast to the bold turquoise blue. Three molded rests at the corners underline its original function as an ashtray.

The unglazed underside features the impressed manufacturer's mark "ATELIERS DE CÉRAMIQUE RICARD." The workshops were associated with Paul Ricard and produced not only promotional ceramics but also decorative ceramic objects. The camping motif reflects the increasing popularity of vacations involving tents and caravans in the 1950s.

Today, the piece is equally suitable as a decorative tray for keys and other small items or simply as a standalone ceramic object.
