This decorative tin box from Remy's Reissstärke AG is an authentic piece of German household and advertising history. The striking blue and yellow checkered pattern in the Art Deco style gives the box an extraordinary graphic impact and makes it a real eye-catcher – whether in the kitchen, on a shelf, or as a collector's item.
Originally, the box was used for "Remy's Reissstärke Marke Löwenkopf" (Remy's Rice Starch, Lion's Head Brand). In the first half of the 20th century, rice starch was a staple in households and was used to stiffen shirt collars, tablecloths, bed linen, or aprons. After the contents were used up, the robust tin boxes were often repurposed for storing flour, sugar, legumes, or other provisions.
The Remywerke company traces its origins back to the Belgian family business Remy, which had been producing starch products since the 19th century and was represented in many European countries. The distinctive lion's head logo and geometric decor reflect the zeitgeist of the 1920s and 1930s.
The box is in beautiful, authentic vintage condition with age-related signs of wear that underscore its historical character.
An extraordinary piece of industrial and everyday history, uniquely combining functionality and graphic design of the Art Deco era.
