This small ceramic dish was produced as a promotional item for the French Calvados brand Père Magloire and dates back to the 1970s. It is a lovely example of French advertising and bistro culture from that era.
The white glazed dish features a slightly scalloped rim with a fine gold trim. Inside, there is the brown brand motif with the lettering "Calvados Père Magloire" and the characteristic smiling face wearing a striped headpiece. The simple color scheme gives the small piece a special charm.
Such promotional dishes were used in French cafés, bars, and restaurants. Today, the piece also works wonderfully as a small tray for coins, jewelry, or other trinkets.
