This exceptional table lighter by the American brand Continental New York dates from the period immediately following World War II and was manufactured in Japan in the late 1940s to early 1950s. The "Made in Occupied Japan" embossing refers to a now sought-after production period between 1945 and 1952, making the lighter an interesting collector's item with historical significance.
In terms of design, the model is based on the classic Lift-Arm lighters of the Art Deco era, but here it has been implemented as a significantly larger table version. Characteristic features are the solid construction, the fine vertical engravings on the casing, and the decorated lever mechanism. Due to its heavy weight and completely metallic construction, the lighter conveys an exceptionally high-quality feel.
The lighter operates with flint and petrol and is suitable today both as a functional object and as a decorative collector's item for a desk, bar, or smoking lounge.
Vintage condition with age-related signs of wear, which emphasize the authentic character and history of the object.
