This ashtray from the French cigarette brand Gauloises Longues dates back to the 1970s and is a fine example of the French advertising and bistro culture of that era.
The rectangular shape features a bold blue glaze, into which the lettering "GAULOISES LONGUES" as well as the brand's characteristic winged helmet are embossed. The fine craquelure of the glaze gives the surface additional character.
Such promotional ashtrays were produced for cafés, bars, and tobacco shops, where Gauloises was among the ubiquitous French brands. Today, the compact dish serves just as beautifully as a vide-poche for coins, keys, or jewelry.
This is a vintage item. Slight signs of wear and age-related craquelure may be present and are part of the piece's authentic character.
