Gitanes Internationales – Longchamp, France

This square ashtray was produced as a promotional item for the French cigarette brand Gitanes. Its vibrant blue color, the white "GITANES INTERNATIONALES" lettering, and the characteristic silhouette of the Gitanes figure make it a typical piece of French café and advertising culture.

The compact, clear shape with sides that slope slightly inward highlights the graphic design. The lettering appears on two opposite sides, while the well-known Gitanes motif is featured in the center. The ashtray was crafted from glazed ceramic by the long-established French manufacturer Longchamp.

Such robust promotional ashtrays were standard equipment in French cafés, bars, and tobacconists, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s. Today, the piece serves not only as an ashtray but also as a small decorative tray, showcasing unmistakable French graphic design.
