This Japanese wooden cup set combines traditional woodworking with an extraordinary geometric design. The three cups are crafted from woods of varying colors, assembled into a precise vertical stripe pattern. The natural hues range from light cream to warm brown and rich reddish tones.
The design reflects the traditional Japanese Yosegi-Zaiku technique, which is particularly well-known from the Hakone region. This involves joining different wood types to create intricate geometric patterns. The interplay between the curved stripes of the cups and the detailed mosaic patterns of the eight hexagonal coasters is particularly beautiful.
On the underside of the cups is a burnt-in workshop or maker's seal. Such brands are referred to as Yakiin in Japanese craftsmanship.
The set consists of one larger and two smaller cups as well as eight matching coasters. The different shapes and wood patterns create a harmonious ensemble that can also be displayed as a decorative object.
