French brass percussion cap

This exceptional brass capsule, originating from France, was originally used as a robust container for storing matches in the field. Such so-called "étuis à allumettes de campagne" were particularly common from the late 19th century until the First World War, serving to reliably protect matches from moisture and damage.

Crafted from solid, turned brass, the capsule impresses with its simple, functional form. The precisely manufactured screw lid securely seals the contents, while the fine knurling on the lid and base provides a good grip even with wet hands or gloves. Over the decades, the brass has developed a beautiful patina, further emphasizing the object's historical character.

Today, the capsule is not only an interesting collector's item of military equipment, but also excellent for storing small items such as matches, notes, needles, or other small parts.
