This massive glass ashtray is believed to be from Murano, Italy, and is a beautiful example of the expressive glass design of the 1960s and 1970s. Its organically curved shape and bold coloring give it a sculptural character.
The deep emerald green is encased in a thick layer of clear glass – a design created using the so-called Sommerso technique. The softly rounded edges, which rise to different heights, create a lively interplay of light, color, and transparency. Depending on the viewing angle, the green appears almost black or glows intensely through the clear glass.
Originally crafted as an ashtray, the piece is equally suitable today as a decorative tray for jewelry, keys, or other small items.
