This heavy vintage clear glass tray is from the Swedish glass manufacturer Pukeberg Glasbruk and is a characteristic example of Scandinavian glass design from the 1960s/70s. The solid, square glass body and its distinctive surface texture, reminiscent of frozen ice, give the piece a particularly sculptural effect.
Originally designed as an ashtray, as evidenced by the four rests on the rim, it is just as suitable today as a catch-all or tray for jewelry, coins, or other small items. Even on its own, the heavy textured glass makes for a beautiful decorative object.
Pukeberg Glasbruk was founded in 1871 in Nybro, Sweden, and is one of the region's traditional glassworks in Småland. Especially in the mid-20th century, numerous designs were created there in which solid glass and distinct surface structures played a central role.
