This massive vintage clear glass ashtray comes from the Swedish glass manufacturer Pukeberg Glasbruk and is a characteristic example of 1970s Scandinavian glass design. The compact, square glass body, with its irregular texture reminiscent of frozen ice, gives the piece a particularly sculptural and three-dimensional effect.
The round indentation and the notch on the rim reveal its original purpose as an ashtray. Today, this heavy glass object works just as well as a small trinket dish, vide-poche, or tealight holder.
Pukeberg Glasbruk was founded in 1871 in Nybro, Sweden, and is one of the traditional glassworks of Småland. Massive glass objects with distinct textures are particularly typical of Scandinavian design from the 1960s and 1970s.
The thick clear glass and irregular texture beautifully refract incoming light – a small vintage object that is surprisingly solid, weighing over half a kilogram.
