Swiss brass hotel keychain – 1960s

These original hotel key fobs from the 1960s come from a small hotel in Switzerland, where they were in daily use for decades. In the meantime, modern times have caught up with the classic room keys, and the heavy brass fobs have been retired.

Crafted from solid brass, the fobs feature the characteristic shape of classic hotel keys from that era, with a large embossed room number and a black rubber bumper at the spherical end. The bumper protected furniture and doors from the heavy metal while simultaneously dampening the noise when set down.

With a weight of around 190 grams, the fobs were intentionally designed to be heavy – not least to remind guests to leave their room key at the reception desk when leaving the hotel.

We have cleaned and lightly polished the fobs, without removing the signs of wear accumulated over the decades. The original key rings have been replaced with new brass rings. Each fob therefore retains its own unique character.
