Shell promotional dish by Chaval – France, 1950s–1960s

This unusual promotional dish for Shell comes from France and dates back to the 1950s or 1960s. At its center is a humorous illustration by the well-known French cartoonist Chaval (Yvan Le Louarn, 1915–1968), complemented by the advertising slogan "C'est SHELL que j'aime".

The triangular dish was made of white melamine and bears the stamp "Annecy – 706 – Ornamine" on the underside. The minimalist black-and-white motif and Chaval's typical signature style give this small promotional item a unique graphic character.

The dish was likely originally used as a trinket tray, cash tray, or promotional giveaway at a gas station or retail outlet. Today, it is a fine collector's item of French advertising and design history.
