Stoneware Storage Jar with Salt Glaze – 19th Century

This antique storage pot made of salt-glazed stoneware is an authentic example of traditional 19th-century pottery art. With its simple cylindrical shape and characteristic grey-brown salt glaze, it embodies the functional aesthetics of historical household ceramics.

Manufactured using the so-called salt-firing process, the pot acquired its slightly glossy, robust surface. During firing, salt was added to the kiln, which combined with the clay surface to create a particularly resistant glaze. This technique was widespread in the 19th century and made stoneware vessels ideal for daily use.
