This original Berger Anisette water pitcher is an authentic piece of French bistro culture from the 1960s to early 1970s. With its curved shape, bright yellow glaze, and raised "BERGER Anisette" lettering, it was a staple in countless cafes and bars across France.

The traditional Berger brand is one of the most famous manufacturers of French aniseed drinks. In addition to Pastis, the sweeter Anisette Berger was also offered, to which the lettering on this pitcher refers. Such ceramic pitchers were specially made for the catering industry and served as striking advertising material on the tables of French bistros.

In the classic Pastis or Anisette ritual, the guest received the undiluted drink and diluted it themselves with cold water. For this purpose, this so-called "pichet" with ice water was available. Adding water creates the characteristic milky louching effect that makes aniseed drinks so distinctive.

The strong yellow glaze and the plastically highlighted lettering still give the pitcher an exceptional presence today. Whether as a water pitcher, flower vase, or decorative object – it brings a piece of French bistro flair into any home.
